Over the past 25 years, Stefano Merlin has led, through Sustainable Carbon and affiliated entities, the development and management of more than 130 carbon projects and over 400 certification processes, including initiatives under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM), as well as in the energy, forestry, and agricultural sectors. A pioneer in the voluntary carbon market, Stefano and his team have also served as advisors to globally recognized organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Education Institute (EEI), and NASA, in addition to leading companies and institutions including JP Morgan, Santander, BP, Volkswagen, and Climate Partners.
He is the co-author of several books and publications on carbon sequestration and environmental valuation mechanisms, and co-developer of the Social Carbon Standard, a methodology that integrates social and environmental indicators into project certification, promoting positive impacts in local communities.
